Americans returning to the sky in airline travel boom
Washington, D.C., United States (AHN) – The latest statistics from the federal government show Americans are returning to airline travel as both domestic and international flights saw positive gains in recent months.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DoT) Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) say 58.1 million domestic and international passengers took to the sky in November, up 6.1% from the same month last year and up an even greater 7.4% compared to November 2008.
Domestic flights in November carried 5.8% more passengers this year, with international passengers climbing 7.8%.
Domestic airlines carried 1.8% more passengers and 6% more international passengers in the first 11 months of 2010 than during the same period in 2009.
Topping the charts for November are Southwest Airlines which carried the most domestic travelers, and American Airlines which flew the most international passengers.
Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International saw the most domestic traffic in November, while more international passengers boarded U.S. carriers at Miami International Airport than at any other location.
